[texts]RELIABILITY ANALYSIS OF THE SOLAR GENERATOR OF THE ESRO 1 SATELLITE - NON
THE RELIABILITY OF THE SOLAR GENERATOR OF ESRO 1 IS STUDIED BY INVESTIGATING THE RELIABILITY OF ITS COMPONENTS. THE RELIABILITY IS DETERMINED FOR THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS: DIODES, SOLAR CELLS, WIRING, AND PANELS. IT IS DEDUCED THAT THE RELIABILITY OF THE SOLAR GENERATOR DEPENDS PRINCIPALLY ON THE RELIABILITY OF THE DIODES NEAR THE HOTTEST WALLS.

Robert H. Goddard with vacuum tube apparatus he built in 1916 to research rocket efficiency. Dr. Robert Hutchings Goddard is commonly referred to as the father of American rocketry. The same year he built the apparatus, Goddard wrote a study requesting funding from the Smithsonian Institution so that he could continue his rocket research, which he had begun in 1907 while still a student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute...

[audio]IUMA: Beat Propulsion Laboratories
In our laboratories we try to distill the perfect musical fuel to drive the audionouts of the new millenium. In our drive to go forward we feel free to use any and all elements of past, present and future audionics to assemble the perfect vehicle, maximised for thrust, lift, speed and cruising. Our products are sent off into orbit and we hope they will reach their destination.

[image]Ion Beam - NASA/GRC
This small ion rocket is being tested inside a vacuum test facility. The test is being monitored by a small camera lens inside the test chamber. Ion rockets are an idea that has existed since the 1950s. They were first used operationally by the Soviet Union and later were employed by American commercial spacecraft and NASA space probes. They provide very low thrust, but are extremely efficient.

[image]Pilot Plasma Engine - NASA
The Pilot Plasma Engine. This traveling wave accelerator, being operated by Raymond W. Plamer of the Lewis Electromagnetic Propulsion Division, uses an alternating current power supply. The AC feature avoids the life limitations of direct current accelerators where electrode parts rapidly deteriorate from touching the plasma. The traveling wave accelerator works like its name. A neutral plasma of electrons and ions is produced in the source at the left...

[texts]Some aspects of Essentially Nonoscillatory (ENO) formulations for the Euler equations, part 3 - Chakravarthy, Sukumar R
An essentially nonoscillatory (ENO) formulation is described for hyperbolic systems of conservation laws. ENO approaches are based on smart interpolation to avoid spurious numerical oscillations. ENO schemes are a superset of Total Variation Diminishing (TVD) schemes. In the recent past, TVD formulations were used to construct shock capturing finite difference methods. At extremum points of the solution, TVD schemes automatically reduce to being first-order accurate discretizations locally, whil...

[texts]Abacus giving the variation of the mean pressure of an aviation engine as a function of its speed of rotation - Margoulis,
Comparing the results of the calculations for computing the mean pressure of an aviation engine for any number of revolutions, with those of experiment, the writer, by numerous examples, shows the perfect agreement between them. This report will show that, by means of a special abacus, an engineer can instantly plot the characteristics of an engine.

[texts]A Simulated Spectrum of Convectively Generated Gravity Waves: Propagation from the Tropopause to the Mesopause and Effects on the Middle Atmosphere - Alexander, M. Joa
This work evaluates the interaction of a simulated spectrum of convectively generated gravity waves with realistic middle atmosphere mean winds. The wave spectrum is derived from the nonlinear convection model described by Alexander et al. [1995] that simulated a two-dimensional midlatitude squall line. This spectrum becomes input to a linear ray tracing model for evaluation of wave propagation as a function of height through climatological background wind and buoyancy frequency profiles...
